TNG 5x22
"Imaginary Friend"

Original airdate: 5/4/1992
Rewatch date: 8/5/2012

A young girl's imaginary friend becomes real trouble for the Enterprise.

Spoiler-free notes:

It's good to hear Geordi talk about his family, since his family is the only one of the main characters' not explored thus far.

In the scene with Guinan and Data on Ten Forward, Data successfully tells a joke for the first time.

Are the red eyes really necessary?

Man, this episode just reeks of mediocrity. The general premise was better handled in "The Bonding," an episode with a similar structure, even down to Picard giving a climactic speech to the alien and convincing her to go away. I appreciate what the writers are trying to do here, but the end result is yawn-worthy. It just doesn't offer up anything new.

Number of episodes in which a member of the crew is subverted by an alien lifeforce: 21.

Spoiler section:

Geordi talks about his mother in the past tense, as though she is either dead or not in Starfleet anymore. However, when we see her in "Interface," she is still in Starfleet, a captain no less.
